Participate in proficiency testing - a requirement for accessing CHDP reimbursement
To access reimbursement through the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) Child Health and Disability Prevention (CHDP) program you must participate in a proficiency-testing program and be included on the list of proficient laboratories maintained by the California Blood Lead Proficiency Assurance Program (CBLPAP).
- Sign up for proficiency testing. Call 608.224.6252 to enroll in the Wisconsin State Lab of Hygiene's free proficiency-testing program (WSLH), or e-mail toxpt@mail.slh.wisc.edu. Let the WSLH know that you are participating in the California CHDP program.

- The WSLH regulatory program ships out five samples for proficiency testing (PT) three times a year - January, May, and September. Once you have passed your first five-sample PT event, WSLH will notify CBLPAP. CBLPAP will provide you with a start date for testing blood-lead levels in CHDP clients AFTER your lab or office is rated proficient.
